Breakfast
Most café's and bars serve breakfast that usually consists of orange
juice and coffee plus either bread with olive oil and garlic or cooked
fresh tomato puree and olive oil or butter and jam. Sometimes you may
find the bar will have pastries or croissants. You can often see local
men simply enjoying a brandy with their coffee!
Tapas
Granada Province is the only area left in Spain where some bars offer
free food with your drink! It is quite possible to avoid dinner and spend
a whole evening visiting the many bars in the area. Order your drinks
and you will find that a small plate of food (Tapa) will accompany it.
Each round will generate a different tapa - bread with cheese, ham or
chorizo, Russian salad, cheese, ham or chicken croquettes, meat balls
in sauce, fried fresh anchovies, garlic fried prawns….
And many, many more!
Lunch
Lunch is often the main meal of the day in Spain so anything goes - followed
of course by a siesta!
Merienda
Merienda is the Spanish equivalent of English afternoon tea (but - as
with everything in Spain - is taken much later). This is usually when
thick hot chocolate is taken with a doughnut type pastry - Chocolate con
Churios. You dunk the churio into the chocolate - wickedly delicious!
Dinner
Dinner is served late and can be a large meal or a snack. As with lunch,
anything goes.
