Solar power will allow use to work with machines and laptops on the land!

At the beginning of February another 100 saplings were delivered to the land, making over 200 in total, which have been temporarily planted in a trench on terrace C2.

We now have a whole range of different fruit and nut trees: Orange, Lemon, Apricot, Pear, Pomegranate, Almond, Walnut, Olive, Kiwi, Grapes to name a few.

Throughout February and March they are being planted across all the terraces. Each terrace will typically have one type of tree and we are planting trees that complement each other together.

Water deposit with rubberised paint to help seal joints. Partik & Tomas date-stamped their work (can you see

Patrik and Tomas drained the water deposit and improved the seal - partly by tightening up some of the bolts connecting the steel framework and partly by using rubberised paint on all the joints.

Connecting irrigation pipes

The complete irrigation system was connected up during February, allowing water to be routed to all the terraces.

We have used a tap to control the water flow on each individual terrace so that we can water the trees according to their needs - which will vary depending on the soil quality on each terrace as well as according to the type of tree growing there.

Graham Saward connected a small Solar system so that we have power on the land without having to use a generator. As well as using it to re-charge power tools, it means we can work on are laptops while we are there as well.

Finally, after many attempts in December and January, the Iberbanda engineer arrived on site and confirmed we had satellite coverage for both phone and broadband internet. The even better news was that he connected everything while he was there, so we can now work and surf at the same time!

One set-back was that the campo road works seem to be starting again and whilst the road has not been closed yet, we are sure it is only a matter of time before the boys are back to cycling to work!

Coming up...

In March two friends will be coming to help with work at Casa Amelia and the Finca. Angelique and Rolf will spend a few months working part-time as "Woffas" (Working For Food and Accommodation) while they look into opportunities to make Spain their permanent home.
